Head Coach
Jason Potts
Jason Potts enters his second year as Edina's Head
Coach after helping lead the Robbinsdale Armstrong
Falcons to their first undefeated season in school
history (50 years). Prior to joining Edina's staff, Potts
spent six years as the offensive coordinator, where he
helped lead the Falcons to three district titles in a row. Potts is a graduate of Armstrong High School and played college football as a running back at Augsburg University. He currently teaches Health and Physical Education at Edina High School and Valley View Middle School. Potts lives in Crystal with his wife, Angie, and two daughters, Lila (5) and Avery (4). Potts wants to help young people pursue their greatest potential and become better people in the process.
Varsity Defensive Coordinator

Mike Johnson
Mike is in his fifth year as Edina’s defensive coordinator (DC). In the past he coached as DC at Osseo High School from 2009 to 2015, coaching teams that won three conference championships, appeared twice in the state tournament, and won the 2015 6A state championship. He also coached as DC for five years at Park Center High School, four seasons as an assistant at Maple Grove High School, and eight seasons as an assistant at Bethel University. As a player he was a linebacker and nose guard at Bethel, starting two years, graduating in 1984. Retired, Mike taught middle school and high school English in Osseo Area Schools for 35 years. He currently lives in Brooklyn Park with his wife, Anne, and two daughters, Ellen and Bea.
Varsity Defensive Line Coach

Thomas Propson
Thom Propson enters his 11th year of coaching and his second year working with the EHS varsity defense. Thom and his wife, Carin Mehan, are Edina residents whose two children were both Hornet letter-winners and are proud EHS graduates. Thom is excited for the opportunity to join the Hornet football tradition, work with Coach Potts and his staff, and help mentor young people in the community.
Varsity Running Backs Coach

Rodney Francois
Rodney Francois is entering his 6th year of coaching. This is Rodney’s third season at the varsity level, after coaching the freshmen for three years. Rodney graduated from South Dakota State University in 2004 where he played football, earning all NCC honors his junior and senior years. He resides in Excelsior with his wife, Nikki, and their two children, Caleb (14) and Nolan (11).
9th Grade Assistant Coach

Darius Meyers
Darius Meyers is joining the Edina Hornets football staff in his first year as a 9th grade assistant coach. He currently works with the special education department at Highlands Elementary in Edina Public Schools. He spent all summer long engaging
the youth players 2-7th grade in flag football.
Video and Technology Coordinator

James Hawthorne
James has worked with Edina Football for 31 seasons. He has spent the last 11 years coordinating the filming, scouting and technology for the 9-12 program. Prior to that, he coached offense with the freshmen and sophomore teams, serving 12 years as the Freshmen Head Coach. James teaches music in the Edina system, most recently at Highlands and Creek Valley Elementary Schools. He resides in Edina with his wife, Lisa, and two daughters Cristiana and Margrethe.
Varsity Offensive Line Coach

Zach Mottia
Zach is in his fifth year at Edina and second year under Coach Potts. Zach is an Edina native and graduate of Cretin Derham Hall High School where upon graduation was ranked the #8 center in the nation by ESPN. Zach joined the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers as a preferred walk-on in 2009, eventually becoming the starting center for the Gophers and a two-year letter winner. Zach works in cybersecurity for the leader in managed detection and response, Arctic Wolf Networks, as a member of the professional services team. He lives in Richfield with his girlfriend, Ashley, and dog Diesel.
JV Head Coach/Varsity Linebacker Coach

Josh Bettes
Josh Bettes enters his 14th year coaching at Edina, with this being his fourth year working with the varsity defense. Josh is a 2003 graduate of Edina. In high school, he was a three-sport athlete in football, basketball, and track. In college, he played at the University of St. Thomas and started on defense at linebacker three of his four years. He achieved the Ironman Award two years while at St. Thomas and was academic all-conference. After graduating from St. Thomas Josh earned a job at Concord Elementary School teaching 5th grade. He resides in Maple Grove with his wife, Bailey, and son Brooks.
Special Teams Coordinator/Outside Linebackers Coach

John Licciardi
Coach Licciardi is in his second year at Edain and comes to us after serving as the defensive coordinator at Park Center High School. Coach Licciardi was head coach at Brooklyn Center the two years prior bringing the first winning season to the Centaurs in over a decade. Prior to coaching at Brooklyn Center, he served as the special team’s coordinator for one year at Osseo Senior High and was the outside linebackers coach as well as the JV head coach for six years with the Orioles, including their 2015 6A State Championship. Coach Licciardi currently works as a Technology Education instructor at Osseo Senior High, a position he has held for the last 10 years. He resides in Maple Grove with his wife, Jessica, daughters Madelyn (10) and Emalyn (6), and son John IV aka “JB” (4).
9th Grade Assistant Coach

Mike Bush
Mike Bush begins his 13th year as an assistant coach on the Edina High School football staff, and has coached defensive backs, linebackers, and defensive line during that time. He has also served on the Edina Football Association Board of Directors for the past 11 years. Mike is a 2005 graduate of Edina High School and a 2009 graduate of the University of St. Thomas, where he earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. During the day, Mike is an engineer in the medical device industry, designing and manufacturing delivery systems and engineered shaft sub-assemblies. Mike and his wife, Courtney, reside in Edina with daughter Olivia (4), their son Logan (1) and their two dogs.
9th Grade Assistant Coach

Eric Dahlman
Eric Dahlman has been with the Edina football program for the past nine years. He is currently the 9th grade offensive coordinator. He has worked with several position groups ranging from offensive line to running backs to receivers. Dahlman is a Physical Education teacher at South View Middle School. He also serves as the JV Head Coach for the boy’s golf team. He resides in Waconia with his wife, Jessica.
Varsity Wide Receivers Coach

Kyle Fowlkes
Kyle is in his second year as coach at Edina. Kyle is a 2015 graduate of Edina High school. He went on to play junior college football before transferring to Bemidji State University (BSU). When Kyle's football career ended due to injury, the first thing he did when returning to Edina was talk to the Athletic Director at EHS to see how he could assist with the football program, which eventually led to him coaching the varsity wide receivers alongside Jason Potts. Kyle is in his last year at BSU, majoring in exercise science with a minor in psychology, while continuing to pursue personal training. He is excited to come back to his old stomping grounds and help the program as much as possible.
Varsity Linebacker Coach

Zach Heinrich
Zach Heinrich is joining Coach Potts and his staff for his third year of coaching at Edina. Zach coaches outside linebackers on the defense. Prior to joining the Edina staff, Coach Heinrich graduated from Carleton College in Northfield, MN where he was a three-year starter at middle linebacker and one of two senior captains. He is eager to continue his coaching career with an experienced staff, as well as lead a group of driven young men. Coach Heinrich currently resides in South Minneapolis with his girlfriend, Chloe (Carleton grad), and their dog.
9th Grade Head Coach

Brad Dahlman
Brad Dahlman has been with Edina football for 11 seasons. He has spent six seasons with the varsity, three seasons with the sophomores, and this, his third year with the freshmen. Most of those years he served as an offensive line coach. Before Edina, he spent one year at Minnetonka as the varsity tight ends coach. Brad graduated from Bethel University in St. Paul where he played football. He was a four-year starter and was named All-Region as a senior. Brad is a Social Studies teacher at EHS and advises the Model United Nations program. He resides in Edina with his wife, Katie, and his two children, Connor (7) and Hudson (4).

Rich is in his second year on the Edina football staff after volunteering on the offense in 2020. Rich spent 16 years coaching youth and middle school football
while serving on the Edina Football Association’s board of directors. He and his wife Michelle live in Edina and have four children: Jyles (27), Anthony (19), Ayden (14), and Charlotte (8). Jyles and Anthony graduated from EHS and the Varsity football program in 2013 and 2021.
Rich Borchardt
Varsity Tight Ends Coach
